After you’ve really landed at Quinta do Moreira, it might be time to explore the surrounding area. I would like to give you some tips on what to do in the area.
“Holidays in nature near Quinta do Moreira”
- Explore the town of Oliveira do Hospital and enjoy the local atmosphere. Highly recommended is Tasquinha dos Marques, where you can eat delicious and cheap food under the cooling branches of the big linden tree.
- Visit the historic center and the market for fresh local products. Market days are the 2nd Monday of the month, between the 9th and 15th, and the last Sunday of the month.
- Dine at a local restaurant and try the traditional Portuguese dishes.
“Hiking in Serra da Estrela: breathtaking views and mountain villages”
- Travel to the nearby Serra da Estrela Natural Park, known for its impressive mountains and beautiful landscapes.
- Take walks through the mountains and enjoy breathtaking views, and swim in the cold waters of lakes or streams.
- Visit the highest peak in mainland Portugal, the Torre.
- Try local (sheep) cheese and wine in one of the mountain villages.
“Piódão: the enchanting slate village in Portugal”
- Head to the picturesque village of Piódão, a hidden gem in the mountains.
- Explore the narrow cobbled streets and admire the traditional slate houses.
- Take a walk through the surrounding forests and enjoy the peaceful nature.
- Visit local craft stores and art galleries.
- Enjoy a delicious meal at a traditional restaurant serving regional dishes.
“Relaxing by the river beaches and waterfalls in the Oliveira do Hospital region”
- Visit one of the beautiful river beaches nearby, such as the Praia Fluvial de Avô or Praia Fluvial de Alvoco das Várzeas, river beach of Coja or drive to the mountain village of Loriga, there is the first river beach from the mountains with the coldest water!
- Relax on the beach and take a refreshing dip in the clear water.
- Take a walk along the river and discover waterfalls such as the Fraga da Pena.
- Enjoy a picnic with local delicacies by the river, often small restaurants can be found at these spots, or barbecue areas.
- “Discover the charm of the small villages and local markets nearby”
- Explore the surrounding small villages such as Lagares da Beira, Bobadela, where you will find a Roman theater or the villages of Vila Nova de Oliveirinha, Lourosa or Midões. Visit local markets and eat a freshly grilled chicken…. You´ll eat your fingers!
- The market in Arganil is every week on Thursdays and the market in Tábua is every Sunday. The big market in Tábua is on the 3rd Sunday of the month. I recommend tasting the fresh produce.
- Dine in cozy restaurants and enjoy regional cuisine.
- Take walks through the rolling countryside and enjoy the rural charm.
- Visit historical sites such as the extraordinary forest ´Buçaco´, the city of Coimbra with its historical University and famous library.
- End your vacation with a relaxing moment at a local spa, or a yoga session nearby or cuddle with the beautiful horses on our quinta.
